A fairing that optimally directs the airflow around the rider provides relief and offers greater riding comfort. Legal regulations restrict this protection, they limit the height of the windshields.

What is the difference between windscreens for the bike?
Manufacturers of motorcycle wind deflectors offer windscreens in different designs. The selection ranges from very steep and high models for touring to small and flat racing windscreens for the race track.
To keep the wind away from the driver as much as possible, "Touring" windshields have to meet special requirements. The speed on motorcycle tours is usually much lower than on the race track. But the comfort advantage on winding roads is bought with certain disadvantages.
If you're on a fast curve hunt, these high and steep models create tear-off vortices on the upper edge. This is caused by the equally unpleasant negative pressure behind the windscreen. While the negative pressure pulls the head forward, the stall vortex hammers against the helmet.
Modern wind deflectors today are not only ventilated from behind, they have been shaped so that the stall vortex is kept within limits. And yet, the physics cannot be levered out. If the windscreens are steep, they will always swirl. The situation is different with windows for the race track and MRA windows. Their angle is so flat that there is little or no turbulence.
What should you look for when buying a windscreen?
If you move your motorcycle only on race tracks, you are bound by the rules and regulations applicable there. If you ride it on public roads, the bike must have a road traffic license. Of course, this also applies to all add-on parts.
Of course you can also take a retrofit windscreen to the TÜV and have it registered. But if you want to upgrade back to the stock windshield at some point, this requires another registration by the TÜV. The change is much easier if you have an ABE (General Operating License).
There are various criteria for obtaining the approval. Among other things, a material appraisal is required. It must confirm that in the event of an accident, the windows will not shatter sharply. Furthermore, a minimum radius at the upper edge of the windscreen is required. Sharp edges are an absolute no-go, just like a too small size. All accessory models are therefore usually supplied with an edge protection (rubber).
Even though many bikers are of the opinion that transparency is not one of the admission requirements. The motorcycle signs may be completely black, tinted or even mirrored. In order to guarantee safety at all times, a certain view through the windows should be available not only for those who drive their machine flat lying to maximum performance.
