Exhaust paint & tyres coloured pencil

On a motorcycle the exhaust is not only a functional component, it is also an important style element. With it you give your bike the final touch and also provide the right sound. "Standard bags" are often made of stainless steel or in chrome look. If you want to give your bike a special look, you can also refine this add-on part with a suitable exhaust paint. At the same time you can also improve the rust protection. In TecBike's online shop you will find high-quality paints and colour pencils for the exhaust and tyres.

Stainless and stylish on the road - Exhaust paint by TecBike

Almost all exhaust systems are made of steel. The material is durable and easy to process. Unfortunately, it also has a major disadvantage: If it comes into contact with moisture, it begins to oxidize quickly. The result is unsightly rust spots that eat through the material over time. When cleaning vehicles or driving in bad weather, contact with water cannot be avoided. Therefore it is important to maintain the exhaust system of the motorcycle or scooter regularly and thoroughly. In the winter months, road salt is added to the moisture. It accelerates the negative effect even more. The most effective rust protection is offered by galvanization. The procedure is very complex and associated with high costs. A lacquering with a suitable heat lacquer is a cost-effective alternative. You increase thereby the durability of the exhaust system. At the same time it looks longer maintained and beautiful. The classic among the exhaust paints is the color black matt.

The right preparation is important

If you want to give the exhaust system on your motorcycle a new face without having to dig deep into your pocket, painting is an attractive alternative. With care and a little skill, even less experienced users can get a beautifully painted exhaust. Important: Painting the exhaust system cannot be compared to painting the fender or hood! The system has a much smaller surface and leaves less room for errors.

You need a lacquer that is able to withstand high temperatures. The best choice is a high temperature paint with a heat resistance of up to 850°C. It is also clear that the exhaust system is not painted on the vehicle. After all, you don't want paint to get on the fairings, brakes or tyres. Therefore, the first step is to disassemble all parts that you want to repaint. Usually standard tools are sufficient. If you are missing the necessary equipment, you will find a wide range of high quality tools for your workshop in our shop.

If you have found an ideal place for the painting work (outdoors and as windless as possible if you don't have a paint chamber), the next step is to remove any existing paint. Since not everyone has a sandblaster at home, a wire brush and sandpaper in different grit sizes are the optimal choice of tools. Alternatively, you can also use a sanding machine or a drill with appropriate attachments. With the sandpaper you work your way from coarse to fine grain. In this way you can remove paint residues and possible rust and smooth the surface. After the sanding work you clean the pot with a cloth and nitro thinner or similar

The painting work

So that there are no lying surfaces that you cannot paint, the part is hung up. The first, very thin layer serves as a primer for subsequent layers of paint. Our tip for this: Keep the spray a little further away from the pot. For an even result, paint beyond the object and apply the exhaust paint evenly.

Once the first coat has dried, further coats follow. After the paint has dried well through, the system is mounted again and it goes to the road to be driven in. The paint is baked for about 10 minutes at moderate speed. The process is associated with a certain amount of smoke development. Finally, a final check is made to ensure that the paint is evenly baked. And already the old exhaust system becomes an individual "tuning bag".
