Tygon brake hose - ultra resistant

The brakes on a motorcycle provide reliable and safe deceleration and they must be able to bite powerfully in an emergency. It is therefore important to pay close attention to this complex system. In addition to changing the brake fluid regularly, it is also important to check the brake pads and the brake fluid hose carefully at certain intervals. At the latest when the brakefluid hose on the bike shows signs of leakage, it must be replaced with a new one. In the TecBike Online Shop you will find the high-quality Tygon brake hose for your motorcycle in various designs and lengths.

Safe and powerful braking with the right brake fluid

Brake fluid is one of the most important fluids on your motorcycle. When you operate the brake lever, the piston in the brake master cylinder builds up pressure on the brake fluid. It transmits this pressure to the brake pistons in the brake calipers and the brake pads are pressed onto the rotating brake disc. This creates friction, your bike brakes.

In the process, the pads wear out and the pistons have to move further out of their holes. The level in the brake fluid reservoir drops. It is therefore important to check the level of this important substance regularly and to level it if necessary.Changing the brake fluid is on the maintenance schedule every two years at the latest. But which types are there and can they be mixed together?

Brake fluids are classified according to the so-calledDOT classes. DOT is an abbreviation that originally meant "Department of Transportation". This department introduced a classification of brake fluids in order to establish common standards. The different boiling points of the fluids were used as the basis for this classification. Today, these DOT classes are recognized worldwide.

Brake fluids are classified in DOT classes 3 to 5:

  • DOT 3: The boiling temperature is 205 °C.
  • DOT 4: This class has a boiling point of 230 °C.
  • DOT 5: The class with the highest boiling point at 260 °C.

Brake fluids with DOT 4 are usually used. Mixing DOT 3 and DOT 4 is possible according to experts, but it is not recommended. For this reason, the brake fluids offered for motorcycles are often marked with DOT 3/4. This ensures that brake pads with DOT 3 approval will not be damaged if DOT 3/4 is filled in. Please note: This does not mean that DOT 4 may automatically be used in an older brake system classified as DOT 3.

With the exception of supersport bikes that get their run out on therace track or real race bikes, it is usually not necessary to use DOT 5.1.

Some machines, such as Harleys, require asilicone-based brake fluid(DOT 5). It must never be mixed with other types of DOT. It would become crumbly and solid after a short time, the rubber sleeves inside the brake and brake fluid hose would dissolve. Please make sure to use a suitable brake hose motorcycle when making your selection.
