Motorcycle Fuel Filter - Universal Fuel Filter

Dust, rust or other tiny particles that get into the engine with the fuel from the tank can cause problems there. This can be effectively avoided with a motorcycle fuel filter. In the TecBike Online Shop you will find the right motorcycle fuel filter for your bike.

For a long engine life: Motorcycle fuel filter from TecBike

If the motorcycle loses tractive power, no longer reaches its usual top speed or the idle is unsteady, this can have various causes. Often it is due to clogged lines or a dirty filter. It is therefore important toclean the fuel filter regularly or replace it if necessary.

Filter intervals vary depending on the manufacturer. Mostly, a cleaning or preferably areplacement of the motorcycle fuel filter of a driving distance of about 10,000 kilometers is recommended. In our TecBike online range you will find, among other things, a petrol filter motorcycle 8 mm in diameter. The 95 mm long filter is not assigned to a specific vehicle or brand. Therefore, please check whether it fits your motorcycle before ordering. You will find exact details in the product description.

Fuel filter on the motorcycle: Do it yourself or have it done?

The more modern motorcycles become, the more difficult it is for the hobby mechanic to do it himself. But there are still many bikes that date back to an era when all that was needed for this work were a few good tools, manual dexterity and a portion of technical understanding.

Correctly maintain and clean fuel filter and fuel tap

Even though they are becoming less and less rare on the road, there are still many motorcycles with fuel taps. If it is dirty or even defective, the bike will no longer run smoothly.

The fuel tank on a motorcycle is mounted higher than the power unit. The fuel follows gravity and thus reaches the carburettor. At the top of the tank is thefuel tap. This is usually a component that you operate manually. It has the following positions:

  • ON (open)
  • OFF (closed)
  • RES (reserve)

A fuel filter in the fuel tap is designed to prevent dirt and impurities from entering the carburetor and causing problems. At every major inspection, we recommend that this motorcycle fuel filter be cleaned. If you have removed the tank for other maintenance work, it is recommended that you at least check it.

If the engine bucks or simply dies off while riding, this may indicate a lean fuel mixture caused by a clogged fuel tap. This is very easy to check: Simply disconnect the fuel hose. Now open the fuel tap. Before doing so, please take precautions to collect the fuel so that nothing gets into the environment!

If there is little or no fuel flowing in one or maybe even all of the three positions mentioned above, it is high time to remove the fuel tap and clean the motorcycle fuel filter of the tap. It is rare for defects to occur in the fuel tap itself.

In most cases, dirt or deposits are obstructing the flow of fuel. If you find dirt in the fuel filter or in the float chamber of the carburettor, you can't avoid cleaning the tank thoroughly as well. But back to the fuel tap and its fuel filter.

Step 1

First, drain the fuel from the tank. To do this, pull the fuel hose off the tank. Now you push a suitable, longer hose on the connection and lead the lower end into a suitable container. A petrol can is suitable for this. Then turn the petrol tap to RES, i.e. reserve, and allow the contents of the tank to drain completely.

Step 2

In the next step you unscrew the petrol tap and pull it out. This gives you access to the motorcycle fuel filter inside. Take it off (unscrew or pull it off) and you just have to carefully clean the fuel filter. Here you need to be very careful not to damage the fine metal or nylon tube strainer.

Step 3

Before installing the fuel tap, check the seals. If they are damaged, they must be replaced with new ones. Is there an O-ring between the tank and the fuel tap? If so, grease it thinly and make sure it is correctly inserted in its groove.

If you want to refill the drained fuel, you should first filter it thoroughly to remove any possible contamination.
